Vitisol®
Description
Extract of grape seeds titrated in PCOs.
Botanical origin
Latin name: Vitis vinifera L.
Properties and use
Grapes are eaten as fresh or dried fruit or are used to flavor pastries and many other culinary preparations. Grape seeds are also pressed to obtain grape juice. Finally, fermenting this juice gives rise to a well-known beverage: wine.
Epidemiological studies have shown that the French population has no greater risk of developing cardiovascular diseases than other European populations, in spite of a diet that is relatively high in saturated fats. This is what is known as the "French Paradox". We now know that this cardiovascular protection stems largely from drinking wine, in particular red wine; other populations drinking significant amounts of wine have also been show to benefit from this protection.
Many studies undertaken to understand how red wine acts to lessen cardiovascular risk have enabled identifying certain molecules that are particularly effective: the polyphenols. The scientific literature shows that polyphenols are able to:
- inhibit platelet aggregation,
- protect LDLs from oxidation,
- decrease the rigidity of vein walls by acting on the conjunctive tissue,
- contribute to good health generally through a strong antioxidant effect.
The abundance and diversity of polyphenols in grapes make this fruit a food with a strong antioxidant potential. They are particularly rich in PCOs (procyanidolic oligomers), as has been well established.
Vitisol® is of guaranteed 100% plant origin and meets current standards concerning the absence of GMOs, allergens, pesticides, heavy metals and mycotoxins.
